CHOOSING INTERESTING LOCATIONS
Choosing your location can be one of the most important challenges facing the photographer. More often in my situation the client usually relies on me to find a suitable location.
The choice of where you shoot will definitely affect the outcome as a wrong location can be disastrous. The location has to add value to the shoot as well as conveying the style and mood of the shoot.
You need to understand the brief and then be able to tell that story. Often I will use polar opposites to convey the story. For example, I will shoot a beautiful evening gown in an old deserted building or in a dodgy part of the city center. This give the image a lot of impact.
This project was a victorian styled shoot and immediately thought of capturing the story in a cemetery close to my studio. The cemetery is from the 1800’s and has not been well kept over the years, but I still thought it would be perfect.
