The New Breed of Women Empowering Themselves!
Words by Jessica Berg
"How OLD are you?"
Why does that matter and who really cares about that anyway, right?
In our society, we have been focusing on the numbers for far too long. "30 is the New 20", "40 is the New 30", "Fabulous and 50" and so on...
And as our fascination with the modern woman continues to grow, (especially the aesthetic of the European, modern women) as well as our endless search for what her secret formula to aging gracefully is, (Ok, what we really want to know is- is it the Creme De La Mer, the wine, the diet or the sex, or perhaps all of the above?) we are organically unveiling a whole new breed of fearless, fabulous and empowered women who innately know how to look after their mental and physical health and wellbeing, as well as their longevity, (and maybe have a glass or two of vino along the way) by being happy with the skin they're in, thanks to a lifetime of experiences and a wealth of wisdom and knowledge gained through those experiences.
These women are strong, confident, educated, resilient and exude sexiness. How do they harness these qualities, you might ask? They focus on Age as an Attitude, not a Number.
Hopefully, this "New Breed" of women will inspire others to focus less on the number and more on their unique power from within- And in the future the question asked will not be, "How OLD are you?" but "How Amazing are you?".
We asked 3 such inspirational women, what it means to be Ageless and why that is so Important. Here is what they said..."
Barbara Bingham — Actress & Model, Mom to 1 son
“Being seen as ageless is important to me, because...who is running out of time here? Certainly not me! I feel like a vibrant, bright spark and I hope to be working and actively participating in life well into my 90's. Once the realization hit that this body is the only one I've got, I found myself making choices that serve my mind, body and spirit for the long haul. I deny myself nothing, control my portions, exercise my body and enjoy a glass of wine at the end of a long day. I wish I could tell you my secret to aging gracefully but instead I suggest we gracefully age. I embrace all my laugh lines and wrinkles as they define who I am and a life well lived. My hope is to inspire women to own and celebrate their individuality and to remember always, you are never too old and it's never too late to pursue your dreams!”
Michele Aikin — Model/ Makeup Artist and Mom of 3 Sons
“To be ageless to me means I have let go of the concept of defining myself by a number. This is not something that has happened overnight, but I have slowly learned to let it go over the past few years. Do I wish that my skin still had the youth of 20 yrs ago?….yes. Do I wish that I could eat everything in sight and stay the same weight?…yes. BUT I have an active, curious, mischievous mind that is not dictated by my age. I can still be sexy (but so much more wise with it), fun loving although serious too, even more curious to learn new things, capable of taking on any task I set myself, and so much more capable of taking on anything life throws at me….and that being a certain number isn’t going to stop that. I feel we need to own our uniqueness, stand proud in it and celebrate that. Number, be gone! :)”
Paola de Teliga — Yoga Teacher and Mom of 1 Daughter
Getting old is a blessing, I have made many friends along the way that were denied the opportunity. Recognizing that our bodies are the most amazing tools we will ever receive and accepting that we cannot press pause or rewind anything, creates grace for ourselves mentally, spiritually and physically.
There is no reverse and there never will be. In fact, wishing there was means you are missing out on what’s happening right now around you. The times we are in are confronting and difficult, but the passion for love and connection is just as strong as ever and possibly even stronger. Just look for that in every conversation you have and you will find a well of eternal youth right there.
And remember, no matter how old we get, we are not here for a long time, so make it a good time! Be generous with your love, you can never max that credit out!”
